Introduction: The supervised at-home bleaching technique consists of a protocol performed at home by the patient, which uses low concentrations of bleaching agents that allow a less aggressive treatment at reduced costs. Objective: To analyze different protocols of the supervised at-home tooth bleaching technique by the dental surgeon reported in the literature, approaching in a comparative way criteria such as the type and concentration of the bleaching agent used, the etiology of the tooth color change, the duration of the treatment and the result obtained when end of the applied protocol. Material and method: It is an integrative review of the literature, carried out by searches on the databases: PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar and BVS, using the describers: At-home teeth bleaching (Clareamento dental caseiro), Hydrogen peroxide (Peróxido de hidrogênio) and Carbamide peroxide (Peróxido de carbamida). It were selected 20 scientific articles to compose this work, being 6 of them case reports, another 6 clinical trials and the remaining 8 literature reviews that contained information to increment the discussion of the results. Results: It was found that there are different protocols for at-home tooth bleaching that include the use of different bleaching agents and concentrations, as well as daily application times and total duration of treatment. Such protocols may or may not bring adverse effects to the patient. Conclusion: It can be concluded that there is no standardized and excellent at-home bleaching protocol in the literature to be followed as a model, since many bleaching products are available on the market and each of them has a mechanism of action and may eventually cause side effects.
