The present study aims to describe a clinical case of lingual frenectomy in a pediatric patient using a conventional technique. The 5-year-old patient, male, feoderma, sought the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic of the Faculdade de Integração do Sertão accompanied by his guardian, complaining of tongue tied and speech difficulties. When examined the tongue, it was observed that it had a short frenulum inserted near its tip, decreasing its motility and making it difficult for the patient to pronounce phonetics and words derived from the “r”. The patient was diagnosed with ankyloglossia and the surgical treatment was indicated. After the clinical examination, intraoral antisepsis was performed using a mouthwash with 0.2% chlorhexidine solution and extraoral antisepsis with 2% chlorhexidine. Subsequently, under the effect of bilateral anesthesia with 2% lidocaine associated with epinephrine, the dieresis maneuver was performed with the goldman fox scissor. Then, the tissue was divulsed with blunt-tipped scissor and sutured with 4.0 silk suture. In the case report presented, the frenectomy surgery performed using the conventional technique showed satisfactory results, proving to be an important step on the treatment of ankyloglossia when properly indicated.
