Abstract

The knowledge of the profile of users of university oral health services helps to map social inequalities and can contribute to planning new strategies for early diagnosis and treatment. The objective of this study was to evaluate the sociodemographic and clinical profile of patients undergoing endodontic treatment at the Dental School Clinic (DSC) of the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), in Patos (PB). A retrospective observational study was developed, whose data were obtained from the medical records of patients treated between 2012 and 2021. It was observed that most patients (63.61%) were female, in the age group of 30 to 39 years (12.59%), mixed race (22.45%), married (43.88%), with complete secondary education (25.51%) and resident in the city of Patos (80.27 %). In the clinical profile, the most prevalent medical condition was heart disease (15.31%). The type of tooth with the highest frequency of endodontic treatment was the upper incisor (38.02%), without preoperative pain (58.47%), and the most common pulp and periapical diagnosis was necrosis (62.30%) and normal apical tissues (43.45%), respectively. The most common treatment was necropulpectomy (65.50%). Most treatments were carried out in more than three sessions (63.58%) lasting more than two months (38.66%). It was concluded that most patients undergoing endodontic treatment at CEO/UFCG in the decade from 2012 to 2021 were female, aged between 30 and 39 years old, mixed race, married, with complete secondary education, and residence in Patos (PB). Heart disease was the most prevalent systemic disease. The upper incisor, the absence of preoperative pain and pulp necrosis constituted the predominant dental profile.
