Dental trauma is more prevalent in children and young adults and is usually caused by falls, automobile accidents, leisure activities and sports. The avulsion of permanent teeth is considered one of the most serious forms of dental trauma, being characterized by the complete expulsion of the tooth from the alveolus, causing rupture of the vascular-nervous bundle and pulp necrosis. The ideal treatment for avulsion is immediate reimplantation in the alveolus. However, when it is not possible to perform it immediately, it is essential to keep the avulsioned tooth in a storage medium capable of preserving the vitality of the periodontal ligament cells until professional assistance can be provided. In this sense, this work aims to verify, through an integrative review of the literature, which are the appropriate storage media.
